A LIFE IN DESIGN – TOM BARTLETT
by Fiona McCarthy

Livingetc profiles Tom Bartlett, head of Waldo Works studio based in London. He speaks about his ongoing projects, signature touches and approach to interiors. When being asked about favourite materials of the moment he includes Marmoreal, which the studio recently chose for a London residential project. “I love the way the random patterning in Marmoreal slabs create energy in a room. I never use it polished, it should feel like a warm, worn church floor”.

IBÉRICO COOL

AD Spain presents a selection of materials, furniture and decorative elements that speaks about contemporary Spanish design. Marmoreal terrazzo has been included among a selection of traditional materials that were able to reinvent themselves using new languages.

The Modern House

The Modern House, an estate agency that specialises in British modernist and contemporary architecture, features some of the most stunning architectural gems and the stories that go with them. Their Journal recently featured a property called Sewell’s Orchard, a large, detached house in rural Hertfordshire designed by the architect Mary Medd in 1934. The property was acquired by new owners, Heidi and Steve, in autumn 2012. Heidi heads up the design agency Together Design and Steve is the head of user experience and design at the BBC. This inherent design sense led them to pursue an extension and redesign that is sympathetic to Medd’s original intentions. We are proud that Marmoreal could find a place in such an inspiring story.
